December 19, 1716, William was granted 480 acres in Chowan Precinct on Sandy Branch near Roanoke River and bounded by Great Fresh Pond, Reedy Branch, and Sea Side Hills, NC Land Grant, Patent Book 111-B, p 92

1719, In his father's will he received 150 acres on which he lived

February 18, 1722, p 191, a William Johnson, 295 acres Surry Co; on S Side of the main Black Water SW; cor. of land lately belonging to Col. WIlliam Randolph, decd; 30 shillings Probably not this William.

September 5, 1723, William Johnson patented 165 acres in Isle of Wight south of Lightwood Swamp adjoining Bartholmew Andrews and Round Mill Swamp, Isle of Wight, Great Book 11, p 260, 20 shillings

November 7, 1723, he patented 200 acres in Bertie Precinct north of Morratuck (Roanoake) RIver adjoining William Green and Falling Run, NC Patent Book, 111-A, No. 709

September 22, 1729, sold the 150 acres he received in his father's will, Isle of Wight, DB 4, p 34

April 11, 1732, William Johnson, 250 acres, Surry Co; S side the main Black Water SW; on E side of the Myery Br., on his own line, p 410, 25 shillings

April 20, 1733, sold the 165 acres on Lightwood Swamp, Isle of Wight, DB 4, p 235-37

About 1734, William starts buying and patenting land in Edgecombe County.
