Notes for John de Wessington

The Washington Ancestry, Charles Arthur Hoppin, Vol 1, p 5
John, a landowner near Kendal, Westmorland, belongs to the Durham County Washingtons. Wessington (now Washington) in the valley of the Wear in the county of Durham.

John appears to have been either a brother or a son of Sir Walter de Wessington who married Diana Dilston, in all probability a son.
Wedding Dowry: "I, Gilbert de Burnelsheved, has given, etc., to John de Wessington, free marriage with Elizabeth my daughter, all that land and tenement which Richard son of Northman and John de Graryg held of me in Askethwayt, Croke, and Styrkland Ketel, with the meados, wastes, etc. To have to the aforesaid John and Elizabeth and the heirs of their bodies, etc. 9Dodwsorth MSS, 142, No. 28)
