Notes for Robert Washington

The Washington Ancestry, Charles Arthur Hoppin, Vol 1, p 41
Robert was one of the largest landholders in north Lancashire in the late fifteenth century. Many of his possessions were in the Lune Valley, but he held Tewitfield in chief, fifteen burgages in Warton, and lands in Silverdale; and to the south he held six burgages and eighteen acres in Preston. As of old he held some of these lands by military service at Lancaster Castle. Most likely he was the builder of the present church tower at Warton.
