Notes for Walter Washington

The Washington Ancestry, Hoppin, Vol 1, p 76
In 1584, when Robert Washington succeeded to Sulgrave, he was then living at the Manor House with his wife Elizabeth, daughter and heiress of Walter Light of Radway, County Warwick. The site of the present mansion of Radway Grange originally belonged to the monastery of Stoneleigh, and in 1545 Francis Goodyere bought it. When it 1553 Walter Light purchased the estate, he built the old part of the existing mansion, and he left Radway Grange to Walter Washington, the second son of his daughter Elizabeth.
