Surry County, VA Records, Book I 1652-1672
. p 192, July 1663, Wm. Dennis complained to the Court that he had received a letter of invitation from Mrs. Fortune Mills to come to see her and do some work, being very urgent. He went and was by her and others annointed with a stinking "oyle" all over his body.
. p 350, April 19, 1669. Whereas Col. John Flood, deceased, in his last Will and Testatment ordained that that dwelling house, orchard land, etc. to be sold and certain livestock and two mares to his son Walter Flood at the age of 16 years, now Fortune Mills, relict of Coll. John Flood as also Capt. Flood and Lt. Col. Geo. Jordan have sold houses and orchards to John Cary, who married Jane ye daughter of Coll. John Flood, now John Cary pays Walter Flood, at sixteen years, two good heavy mares, and at 21 years a parcell of land on the west side of Ware Swamp between the swamp and the land of John Kindred...when John Cary returns from England. Rec. 10 day 9ber 1669

In 1673 the Surry Court granted him a certificate showing his right to have land in Surry for the transportation of 38 persons, among whom was Fortune Flood, his sister, who married Colonel John Flood; Arthur Jordan, his brother, and Charles and William Jordan.
