On June 30, 1896, E. G. Spear made application for a Civil War pension. He was a private in company G of 1st Regiment of Georgia Volunteers (Infantry), he enlisted in 1864 in Kinsgston, Georgia and was discharged in May 1865. He claimed he had a physical disability from the Army. His post office address was Albertville, he was a farmer who owned his house one mule and one cow.
