After Lafayette's death, Martha returned with three of the children to Smith County and managed her own farm for the remainder of her life.
The grave marker for Martha was placed several years ago by the Hopkins Reunion Association. In 1993 the remains of both Martha and her father Samuel were moved to the Hopkins family cemetery south of Mize, MS, on State Rte. 35.
