From Biographical, Genealogical and Descriptive History of the First Congressional DIstrict of New Jersey, The Lewis Publishing Company, New York and Chicago, 1900, p 87: General Henry Knox offered James the command of the First Marine Corps. He was sergeant major of the McPherson BLues. James was in the battle which is known in history in connection with the whisky insurrection.
