Notes for John Burney

Revolutionary soldier from Washington County, GA

From "A Sketch of the Burney Family" by Thomas J. Burney:
ELIZABETH WALKER BURNEY:
My dear and well beloved mother, married my father, John Burney, in 1794. The children of this marriage were John Walker, Thomas Jefferson, William Vardeman, Silvanus Walker, and James Lawrence, sons; and Emily, the oldest child, who died in infancy; Elcy, Jane Tilothy, and Charity. My father' s first residence was in Greene County near where grandfather Walker lived, and both moved together to Morgan County , my father settling, after the first year, on Indian Creek , and a few years after he moved a short distance to the place where he died in 1822. My father was a man highly respected as a citizen, and maintained an unspotted character, he was an industrious and thrifty farmer. After the death of my mother in 1814, my father married Margaret Moore of Wilkes County, by whom he had one son named Franklin but who died in infancy. My stepmother married after the death of my father and lived many years near Union Point, Greene County.
