Notes for Edward Vandiver

From Noble Acker, page 347: Edward Vandiver came from Maryland just before the Revolutionary War. He was a soldier under Capt. Andrew Thomas. He also served under Capt. Amandus Leslie. His Colonels were Winnie and Easterland. He fought in the Battle of Eutaw Springs and drew a pension from SC. In 1782 he was serving under Colonel Brestling at Four Hole Bridge. He died at his home near Neals Creek Church in 1837 and is buried in that churchyard.
He was the father of twelve children, all boys but two. He was first married to Helena Turley, second to Catherine Poole. Seven of his sons were Baptist preachers, the most distinguished of whom was Peter Sanford Vandiver.
The Ackers and Vandivers lived near Winnsboro, in present day Fairfield County, South Carolina.
