Descendants of Reuben Cox might like to know the following, which would not be found in an index under COX:

A plat drawn for Meredith H. BROCK and William FRENCH (for 720 acres in Anderson District on the South branches of Saluda River) shows Reuben Cox's land bordering the 720 acres. The surveyor not only indicated the location of Reuben Cox's land, but also noted the location of his house; he sketched a little house and wrote "Reubin Coxes H." (To order a copy from the SC Department of Archives and History, Columbia, present the following information: STATE PLATS-Cola, VOL.49, p.88, Meredith H. Brock and William French)

Land surveyed for Peter ACKER and owned by Amos ACKER (my husband's ancestors)and land owned by others also bordered the 720 acres.

From Martha W Acker, email January 17, 2005:
1. THE BOOK OF THE DEAD by Smith (cemeteries of Anderson Co. SC) shows: Cox Cemetery # 1: Reuben Cox d. 1 July 1835, husband of Elizabeth Davis; children: Abner, David, Frances, Gabriel, Joseph E., Rachel, Rebecca, Reuben, William. The compiler does not say if all/or any of this data appears on a tombstone, or whether there is more than one stone. Note that the names are in alphabetical order, and that they are not exactly the same as Andrea's list below.

2. In the Cox family file of material collected by Leonardo Andrea of Columbia, SC, on microfilm at South Caroliniana Library, Andrea states
that Reuben Cox was related to the Cox's of Newberry and Edgefield Co. SC. He further states that Reuben was from Rappahanock Co. Va., moving to Abbeville Co. SC after the Revolution where he mar Elizabeth Davis.(the eldest known child was born in 1786. Not knowing when he mar. Elizabeth Davis makes it difficult to tell if she is the mother of the children. They are buried in family graveyard at Coxes Bridge on the Saluda Riv. in Anderson Co. SC. The heirs of Reuben's estate were the minor children of Reuben Cox, Jr., dec'd; David Cox, Abner Cox, Joseph E. Cox, Frances Cox, Rachel Cox, Elizabeth Cox, William Cox, Gabriel Cox, Mathew Cox. Note: Elizabeth is not on the above cemetery list, so this may be the widow. Also Mathew is not on the cemetery list. And missing is Rebecca who is on the cemetery list.
