Notes for Capt. Ralph Hamor

From Clements, p 7: Ralph Hamar was the son of Ralph Hamar of London and they were both members of the London Company in 1609. The son first came to Virginia about 1609 and several years later returned to London where he published in 1615 "A True Discourse of the Present State of Virginia". He subsequently returned to Virginia as Vice-Admiral to Argall and was appointed Member of the Council in 1621. During the massacre of 1622, he was attacked by Indians near a new house which he was building for himself, but he and several others drove off the renegades with bricks, spades, etc.
