Notes for Lucinda Hall

From History of Macoupin County Illinois, Hon. Charles A. Walker, Vol I, Chicago: SJ Clarke Publishing, 1911, Vol II, p 204-209: In her early years taught in the country and city schools. When she married her husband was a medical student, she continued to teach while he finished school. She served as his assistant in his practice and upon his encouragement in 1871 she entered the Women's Hospital and Medical College of Chicago, from which she was graduated in 1874, as valedictorian of her class. After pursuing post-graduate work in New York and Chicago hospitals in 1874 she began practicing in Carlinville and became the first woman doctor in Macoupin Co.
