He was a Revolutionary soldier, participating in the battle of Kings Mountain, NC, September 1780. He brought from the field a conch shell which had been used as a horn by the British Commander, Ferguson. This relic was preserved by his son, Hosea, whose granddaughter, Nrs. WS Everett, of Cedartown, GA, prsented it to the DAR. IT can be seen in the museum of Memorial Continental Hall, Washington.
