James S Brawley wrote (Rowan County: A Brief History, Page 2) that there were basically two ways on land that settlers traveled. "The trading Path stretched from Fort Henry ( Petersburg, VA) westward into Rowan County where it crossed the Yadkin at Trading Ford and continued on the over hill Indian Camps in South Carolina and Georgia. The other highway extended from Pennsylvania south through the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia into Carolina as far as the Trading Path, which it joined just east of Yadkin River." It is understood that these trails were made by the Indians and the settlers just followed those established paths. (The Great Philadelphia Wagon Road -- 435 miles in length. )
Hunstville, NC. Town in southeast Yadkin County near Yadkin River. Chartered 1792, by Charles Hunt of Salisbury who sold lots here. Town re-charted in 1822 but long inactive in municipal officers. From all indication, I am of the strong assumption that the Hunts were not actually from present day Rowan County. They were just from the north of the District of Salisbury and about present day Rowan County
