Source: "Family Histories of Monroe County, GA" Benjamin and Mary Elizabeth were the parents of eight children. Thomas Gideon was their first child. Some of their children were born in Monroe County, the remainder in Marshall County, Alabama. After moving to Marshall County, Alabama, Benjamin served in the Confederate Army in Darby's Co. Auburns Ala. H.G. He bought land in Alabama and was the inventor of two plows and a car coupling for boxcars. All these patents are recorded with the United States patent Office in Washington, DC
