Notes for Robert Batte

Robert matriculated at BRASNOSE COLLEGE, OXFORD, NOV 9,1579 and received his B.A. from there on FEB 6, 1582. He received his M.A. from UNIVERSITY COLLEGE APRIL 29, 1586, and his B.D. ON JUNE 27, 1594. He was licensed to preach OCT. 27, 1595.(From THE BATTE FAMILY HISTORY)He was VICE-MASTER of UNIVERSITY COLLEGE(REF FROM : BATTE PEDIGREE, VISITATION OF YORKSHIRE 1665 and printed in VIRGINIA GLEANINGS IN ENGLAND by LOTHROP WITHINGTON.

In 1607, he was settled as rector of Newton Tony in Wiltshire and probably lived there the rest of his life. He inherited Oakwell Estate from his father but never lived there. The estate was probably managed by his cousin, Jonas Waterhouse and another cousin, David Waterhouse lived at Oakwell from 1594-1609.
