Named after Francis Asbury the Methodist Circuit rider who preached at The Grove and was a house guest of Rev. Mark Moore. Later Asbury became the first bishop of Methodism in America.
Francis settled in Anderson Co, SC, near Belton, about two miles southwest of Shady Grove Baptist Church (known as "Broyles Meeting House" at that time) at "Ragsdale's Ford" on Broadmouth Creek
