In the name of God amen. I Joseph Pritchett of Hancock County and state of Georgia being of a sound mind, but weak body and knowing that it is appointed unto all men once to die, do think proper to make this my last will and testament in the manner and from following.

First I assign my soul unto the hands of almighty God, who gave it, and my body to be decently buried by my executors, who shall be hereafter named, also that all my just and lawful debts should be paid and then the remainder of my property both real and personal to be left as follows.

Item I lend unto my beloved wife Sarah Pritchett one negro woman names Phillis, during her natural life.

Item I give and bequeath unto my beloved wife Sarah Pritchett all my stock of hogs, cattle, sheep and one horse together with all my household and kitchen furniture. I will that the money which is due me to be paid out by my executors in the purchase of a negro for the use and benefit of my family until my oldest son Wiley Pritchett comes of age and then for him to have an equal proportion of all the estate except the negro woman Phillis I leave to my wife and also for my sons William, Philip and Rhodom Pritchett each to have his proportionable part of the estate as they come of age.

Item I give and bequeath after the death of my wife the negro woman Phillis to be equally divided amongst all my children. I do also appoint and nominate Rhodom Griggs my executor to this my last will and testament. I do also appoint and nominate my beloved wife Sarah Pritchett executor to this my last will and testament.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this twenty second day of April one thousand eight hundred and seventeen.

The last will and testament of Joseph Pritchett was proven in open court by the oath of Greene B Griggs on of the subscribing witnesses to said will who also testified that he saw William Griggs and James Cowley sign the said will be recorded and that letter testamentary be granted to Sarah Pritchett and Rhodom Griggs to whom after being duly qualified letters was granted accordingly.

There is a Rhodum S Griggs and 3 William Griggs in Hancock County in the 1820 Census but no Greene B Griggs listed in the State of Georgia 1820 Census.
