Johnson, Harrington and Allied Familes, compiled by Mrs. Clarke H. Johnson, The American Historical Society, New York, 1933, p 40:
In August 1763 and again in May, 1765, he is listed as an ensign in the 2nd Company of Militia, Scituate, Rhode Island, and in the "Rhode Island Military Census of 1777", he is recorded as of Scituate, 16-50 "able to bear arms." In May 1795 and 1796, he is once again lsited as an ensign, this time in the 1st Company of Militia of Foster. Similar entries are founjd for the year 1802, 1803 and 1804, but it is more probable that these refer to Josiah Herrenton, Jr., the son of Captain Simeon Herrendon.
