Notes for Harry Barton Kennedy

September 3, 1909, Oxnard Curier, front page: "Mrs. L. V. Kennedy, of El Rio appeared before the board to testify in an effort to revoke the license of one Cuccato, a saloon keeper, doing business in Oxnard. Having been sworn, Mrs. Kennedy, whose husband is an operative in the factory, stated that her son, Harry Kennedy, aged 13 years, was made helplessly drunk last Saturday afternoon through imbibing wine sold to a minor....(boys) subjected to a rigid examination directed by City Attorney Stewart.
The result of the grilling indicated that the little fellows had formulated a plan to indulge in claret wine and to that end enlisted the services of Frank Twist, one of the trio, who had on several occasions purchased wine of Cucatto for his father. On last Saturday afternoon he was sold a half-gallon which the boys drank while riding about the country in a buggy.
Young Kennedy was made quite ill and partly delirious by his experience."
