Notes for Alonzo Moon

He died on the day Edgar was born. The family was still so poor at that time that the Haydock family, who were neighbors, paid to bury him.
Walter Klement has been cultivating a rose that was grown from a cutting taken from the Moon house in Santa Paula to Ventura, and then back to his Santa Paula home on Main Street. He was told that Sarah had brought a cutting from the cemetery in Ventura to their Santa Paula home in remembrance of someone who was buried there. The only Moon/Byrd family member buried there was the young Alphonso. This rose species has been identified as a cultivate from France developed in 1810 by a famous French 'Rosarian'. This rose will be displayed in September 2001 at the annual Ventura County Rose Society convention.
