Notes for James Wilson Hill Waddle

From "Our Ancestors" by JA Brickhouse: Moved from Alexandria, Benton County, Alabama to Lexington, Burleson (now Lee) County, Texas.

Source: Family History, by Ethel Holt Beanland
"Mose Waddle had gone to Rockdale, Texas in pioneer days, in a covered wagon, to take up a homestead. It seems he did well for himself and family, buying land in addition to the original homestead. He gave all of his children farms when they married."

Sam Houston's grandfather James Wilson Waddle born 1818 - 1st cousins

The land that James Wilson Hill Waddle Sr and Elizabeth Brickhouse Waddle originally owned in Milam Co TX was passed down to their children. At some point in time, it was sold (along with mining rights) to Alcoa Aluminum. The Waddle and Barber Cemeteries are located on Alcoa property in Rockdale, TX. To visit these gravesites, you must be escorted by Alcoa security, wear a hard hat, and be taken to the sites. The cemeteries are not well kept and have been deteriorating over the years. Some descendants have tried to maintain them, but it is not easy access and is a deterrent.
