Notes for Sarah Elizabeth "Sally" Brickhouse

Source: Ethel Beanland
As a young girl employed in a millinery store in Clarksville, Tenn
Took business course at Fall's Business College, Nashville, TN
At time of her marriage worked for J.H. Wilkes & Company, Nashville

"Married Chester, Papy's oldest son by his first marriage. They had been thrown together while Aunt Sallie was living with us and I've heard her say that at that time she loved him, but not even thought of him in a romantic way. I've often heard her tell of her great surpise when he proposed marriage to her. She wrote him that he had forgotten the difference in their ages (7 years older than he); he wrote back that he had not forgotten at all, but that it didn't make any difference. She would tell in a rather dramatic way of getting his picture out of the drawer, looking at it and saying - "Why, the very idea of my marrying Chester" then the thought came to her - "But why not? He's the nicest young man I know of anywhere." So they married and were extremely happy together.
