McCain. A sketch of Isaac Criner, Huntsville "Democrat", Jan 24, 1877 says that "... the Browns, Rices, Mathews and McCains came and settled on the Fork of Flint River. The latter settled on the McFarland place (now owned by Isham Fennell, whose daughter Isaac Criner married about the year 1810." A check of the deed records showed that in 1877 Isham Fennell owned the SW 1/4 of Sec 6 T2 R2E; the Government records state that this 1/4 section was patented on October 5, 1819, "to William Griffin assignee of Robert McCain." It would appear then, that he was Father Nancy (McCain Criner, whose people moved to Shelby Co, Alabama where Jane McCain (presumably her mother) died. The file on the estate con the receipt of Isaac Criner, June 18, 1821, to Henry Cox, Admr. of Jane McCain "all my dowry that is coming to me", i.e. his wife's share. It seems to be some confusion, the Letters of Administration having been granted on the Estate of James McCain, but the account of sale, the appointment of guardians and receipts show "Jane". Receipts were signed by Enis Hughes, Moses McCain, Moses as guardian for William McCain, Robert McCain, James McLaughlin, Isaac Criner, Henry Cox as guardian Kesiah McCain and Andrew McCain, John McCain, James McCain. In 1827 John Parmore receipted for "all demands of said estate." There is said to have been a daughter Elizabeth, also.
