Virgil graduated from Phillips High School in 1928 and received his BA degree from Birmingham-Southern in 1932 with a major in French. He studied a year abroad as an exchange scholar in Angers, France, MA Educational Administration from the University of Alabama 1934, did graduate work at Harvard and LHD Athens College 1957.
