"On January 13, 1948, J.P. Thomas resigned as Mayor and V.B. McCain was appointed Mayor to fill his unexpired term. Mr. McCain served until August 1952. In 1952, V.B. McCain was elected Mayor for four years.
During the time of Mayor McCain, there were many improvements to the Town of Maplesville. Some of them were:
- the telephone exchange was built in 1948 and for the first time, Maplesville residents had telephone service. Before 1948 there were only a few wall telephones.
- The town bought their first garbage truck in 1949
- In 1951 a water system was established
- In 1955, the town established a natural gas system
