North Carolina detached militia, War 1812. Appears on company pay and receipt roll, September 26th to October 4th, 1814. Roll not dated, Term of service 8 days, Traveled 60 miles. Pay per day, ?6 1/3 cents. Total amount $2.12 2/3 cents. Signers: Thos. Weatherly, Agent, Witness: WJ Ethridge

From "Our Ancestors" by JA Brickhouse: Matthew served in the war and was a teacher in the schools. They had eleven children - seven girls and four boys. The girls all died young and unmarried, except Parmelia and Betsey Ann

1840 Census Tyrell County, NC, p 219, lists Joseph A Swain living next to MP Brickhouse

In the fall of the year 1842 traveling with friends in a "wagon train", Matthew, his wife, his father-in-law, mother-in-law, three sons and two daughters, moved to Benton County (Calhoun), Alabama settling near Alexandria.

1850 Census 29th subdivision, Benton County, Alabama, page 332 A & B, lists Matthew as a Teacher. He was a teacher and farmer in the fertile "Alexandria Valley". He was a Mason

1860 Census Oxford, Calhoun County, Alabama written page 114 farmer Living with him Lois, James, Joseph A and daughter Parmelia Lankford and her two children Matthew and Sarah

1866 moved to Clarksville, Tennessee

Clarksville Weekly Chronicle, June 14, 1867, page 2, "Matthew P. Brickhouse, age 76 years, died 8 June 1867, of cancer at the Rogers place, in Montgomery Co, TN. Formerly from Alabama."
