Notes for Josephine B Herindon

According to church records Josephine joined McKendree Methodist Church in 1846. This would have been the year that John Kizer died. Did she go to live with Hannah Kizer at this time because her family was in financial difficulty? She was married out of Hannah home in 1849 after Perry came back from the Mexican American War. Did she live with her from the time she was 12 years old until she married at 15 years old ?

Name in marriage recordbook not legible.

After Perry's death, 1870 Census Stewart County, Erin PO, Tennessee lists Josephine and her children Laura, George, Samuel and Hanah living with Hanah Kizer, age 72, who was born in NC

Houston County, TN was formed out of part of Stewart County in 1871 so Erin became part of the new county.

Tennessee's Confederate Widows and Their Families, Edna Wiefering, 1992, p. 44: Josephine B (Herindon) resident of Houston County, TN at the time the pension application was filed. She was born in 1834 in Stewart Co, TN and died in 1913. Married Perry F. Allman born 1826 in Stewart Co. 1849 Stewart Co married. Perry died 1864 in war.

1880 Census of District 8, Houston County, TN lists family 112 as Anner Kizer, 82, keeping house; Josephine Allman, 46 (niece); and Hannah Allman, 19 (great niece)

1900 Census Josephine listed as head of household with Daughter Laura Walker born January 1856 in Tennessee and granddaughters Rosy (Sept 1884) and Betsy Walker (Sept 1886) It says that both of Josephine's parents were born in North Carolina and it lists her occupation as Farmer.

At the time of the widow's pension she lived Erin, RFD #1 on 4 acres of land and had a house valued at $50 and income of $96/year.

Death Certificate: states cause of death as Pneumonia. The information about her parents, birth place, etc. are blank.

Bateman Cemetery - located in the Salmon Branch neighborhood, about four miles west of the Salmon Branch Cemetery. There were about 25 graves marked only with fieldstones and several sunken graves with no stones of any kind. The cemetery was shaded by large cedars and oaks and was on a slight knoll and enclosed by a wire fence. Several homemade Gothic type stones with no inscriptions. Although there were no marked graves with the name of Bateman, this cemetery is found on old maps as the Bateman Cemetery. Allman, Josie, 4 March 1834 - January 4, 1914; Walker Laura A.
