Notes for Jane Southerland

Jane was Peter's second wife.

In a petition by Edward Vandiver for a state pension (SC ARCHIVES Rec. of Comptroller Genl' AA 8017) the following affidavits were given to
help substantiate his claim: In an affidavit dated 5 June 1830 before WILLIAM ACKER , J.P. Anderson Co. SC, JANE ACKER stated that in 1779, she believes, Edward Vandiver was in service for two terms of 3-6 months. Her husband was out with Vandiver, and at the time they resided in Fairfield Co. SC. She states she visited Vandiver's family at that time.
In an affidavit dated 1 Nov 1830 WILLIAM ACKER, J.P. states that he was a boy at the time, but it was reported that Edward Vandiver was away from home in service of the Country, and that he frequently went to the Vandiver home during his absence, and from the family learned the cause of the absence.
