It is likely that Peter and his family came to SC via Virginia around 1776

His place of residence during the Revolution was Fairfield County, SC and he remained there until 1790. Pvt. 1st Regt. of SC state troops, Lt. Col. Wde Hampton Comdg.

"Issued the 6 of May 1785 to Mr. Peter Acker for Thirty Eight Pounds Eighteen Shillings and Six Pence three farthings Sterling for two Horses for Public Service in 1781" From Stub Entries to Indents Issued in Payment of Claims Against South Carolina Growing Out of the Revolution, Books R-T, page 4, Stub Indents # 393 Book F: Issued 4 Jan 1785 to Mr. Peter Acker One Pound Four Shillings and Nine Pence for provisions for militia use in 1782 for General Pickens Brigade

Source, History of Acker-Halbert Family, pg 15: German immigrant and a Revolutionary solider served under Elder Wade Hampton of South Carolina. By trade he was a blacksmith and for part of the time General Hampton assigned him to duty in shoeing horses for his soldiers. The colonial records of South Carolina show that Peter Acker was allowed pay for supplies furnished during the Revolution. More than probable part of these supplies was iron used in shoeing horses. You must remember there were no foundries in that day to make horseshoes and nails for same and the blacksmith had to make his own nails and shoes from the iron at hand.

Jane was his second wife and he raised their family in Fairfield, South Carolina

1790 moved to Pendleton District, SC and bought large tracts of land on the Saluda River, near Anderson County.
