The birth date of William Acker from the 1850 Census of Anderson Co., S.C., Eastern SubDivision, page 252, age 78, and James Holdman, age 17, laborer.

No grave marker was ever found in Anderson Co., S.C. of William Acker. However, Noble Acker assumes he was buried there. (This is not a proven fact, since many of his children were living in Alabama and elsewhere.)

PETITION FOR STATE PENSION Reference South Carolina Archives Record of Comptroller General AA 8017

Affidavit: for Edward Vandiver
By William Acker

I was a boy at the time stated in this written Probate, but have a distant recollection that Rev. Edward Vandiver was reported to be from home, in the Service of the Country. Frequently I was at his house during his absence, saw the Family and from them also the cause of his absence. Nov.1 1830 Wm. Acker J.P.

South Carolina Personally came Jane Acker before me and maketh Oath that in year
Anderson Dist. 1779 as this reponant believes, that within the knowledge of this

That this reponants Husband was out with P. Edward, but at that time they resided in Fairfield Dist. of this State.

The deponant visited his afficted Family in his absence, and further saith hath sworn to and acknowledged before me, June 5 1830.

This letter was copied from handwritten Affidavits.

William Acker was the Son of Peter Acker and Jane [Sutherland] Acker. William Acker was apparently their oldest son, and also the Justice of the Peace for Anderson Co. S.C. at the time.

It has taken many years of research, to find any references in the South Carolina Archives concerning the Acker Family. This record also proves that Peter Acker and Family did reside in Fairfield Dist. of South Carolina, and that Peter Acker did have Duty in the Revolutionary War, for a short time. To what extent it is not known.

I am sure his Duty did not exceed the six Months required for the Federal pension, or the State Pension.

The Revolutionary War lasted from 1775 to 1783. I have read from other sources that Edward Vandiver came to South Carolina shortly after the start of the War and it was very likely that Peter Acker and Family also came about 1776 via Virginia. Two of his Sons were living in 1850, and the Census Records show that they were born in Virginia. The Sons were William in Anderson Co., S.C. and Joseph Acker in Shelby County Alabama. It is said by Peter Acker Jr. family that he was born in Pennsylvania, however I have no proof of this.
