1989 Ruby received a plaque from the Friends of Alabama Libraries for selling more of their $10 memberships than anybody in the state. She sold 45 and was honored at their legislative conference in Montgomery, on March 8th. She spend 22 years as the Guntersville librarian before retiring. in 1989 she was on the board of the Alabama Friends group, which was set up in 1983 as a lobbying group to try to get more state money for libraries.
1991 Ruby received the Library Medal of Honor, which goes to retired librarians who have had distinguished careers. She served as Guntersville librarian from 1962 for 22 years until she retired in 1984.
