Notes for William Harvey Nabours

From J.A. Thomason writings from 1945-1950, General History of Marshall County Alabama
p. 1162, "J F Prentice bought a claim on 40 acres about 1880 from William Nabors. He lived there till about 1900 and sold it to Rev. E T Pesnell. The old building was a log house, chinked and daubed. William Nabors built the south room and porch and J F Prentice built the north room and porch."

From "The Story of Montague County Texas"submitted by Mattie B Nabours Adkins, 1989: "The Nabours family moved to Texas about 1881 or 1882. They settled first near Corsicana in Navarro County. They came to Texas by covered wagon. I've heard my grandmother speak of her arm blistering by the moonlight reflecting on the water as they crossed the Mississippi River. Evidently they did not stay long in Navarro County but moved on to Montague County, March 1, 1883. They settled about five miles from Montague and raised this family.
"Grandpa Nabours was a farmer. They raised and preserved their own food. They canned fruit and vegetables and stored them as well as potatoes, turnips, etc. in the 'stormcellar' which kept them from freezing in the winter. They also raised chickens, hogs and cattle to provide eggs, milk and meat for the family. 'Hog-killing day' was a big day when all the neighbors came into help. The first sausage was fried and tasted to see if the seasoning was just right...Sure was good!"

This family moved to and lived in Bowie, Texas.

Robert, Jane Carolina and William and their families moved to Montague County, TX in the 1880's and 90's.
