OBITUARY: (excerpts) Lon Preston Johnson, retired merchant, land owner and saw mill operator, died at his home here Thursday after an illness of about 8 years..... Mr. Johnson owned a section of land at Diamond. He came to South Guntersville and opened a large mercantile business in 1918. In the early 1920's he retired to his farm and opened a small grocery store. His health failed about 8 years ago and he and Mrs. Johnson moved to town to be nearer their doctor. For a while he operated a store at Warrenton.
Mr. Johnson owned and operated a large sawmill on his farm. He was a member of the Diamond Methodist Church.

November 21, 2004, David Johnson, Lon's brother Datus' son, at his home tells Calvin and Jean Ann Moon, that he remembers Uncle Lon always smoked a pipe.
