The Quakers of Chuckatuck in Nansemond Co were very influential in that locality and a number of well know families in that neighborhood appear to have been Quakers, or related to, or associated with them.
The Southern Historical Association, (Vol 7, pp 96, 97 & 99) has published the records of the Quaker meetings at Chuckatuck and at the marriage of Thomas Jordan and Elizabeth Burgh. It shows that Thomas Godwin and Barnaby Kearney were present. They were Justices and also members of the House of Burgesses.
Thomas Taberer, William Denson, Thomas Tooke and Thomas Jordan, Burgesses, and RIchard Bennet, Governor were also Quakers.
